Background of the Study: Anemia during pregnancy is a widespread public health issue, particularly in developing countries, and it poses significant risks for both mothers and their infants, including preterm birth, low birth weight, and maternal mortality (Ogunlade et al., 2023). Iron-deficiency anemia is the most common type of anemia among pregnant women, and inadequate dietary intake of iron-rich foods is a primary contributor to this condition (Ahmed et al., 2024). Nurses are in a key position to provide dietary counseling to pregnant women, helping them understand the importance of proper nutrition and the role of iron-rich foods and supplements in preventing anemia.
In Benue State, where maternal health remains a significant concern, the role of nurses in preventing anemia among pregnant women through dietary counseling has not been extensively studied. This study aims to investigate how nurses contribute to preventing anemia through dietary counseling in Benue State hospitals, focusing on the knowledge, practices, and challenges nurses face in providing this essential care.
Statement of the Problem: Anemia in pregnancy is a significant problem in Benue State, contributing to adverse maternal and fetal outcomes. While dietary counseling is a crucial preventive measure, there is a lack of comprehensive research on how nurses in Benue State hospitals are addressing this issue. Understanding nurses' role in preventing anemia through dietary counseling is essential for improving maternal health and outcomes for pregnant women in the state.

Scope and Limitations of the Study: The study will focus on nurses’ roles in preventing anemia through dietary counseling in Benue State hospitals. Limitations may include variations in the level of nursing education and resources available across different hospitals in the state.
